Meeting: Stream Gaging Network Stakeholders Meeting

  • 06/07/2011
  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Iowa National Guard Readiness Center, 4540 Melrose Ave. Iowa City, IA

Potential budget cuts in future years may result in the discontinuation of flood gages in the Mississippi River basin in Iowa, including central and eastern Iowa.  Any flood gage discontinuations may severely impact the National Weather Service's ability to forecast and detect floods.

These flood gages are used not only by the National Weather Service, but also the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Iowa Department of Transportation, natural resources agencies, emergency management agencies and water intake owners such as municipal water supply, and power plants.

Many of the flood gages in central and eastern Iowa are funded by various partners in the public and private sectors, including the U.S. Geological Survey, Iowa Water Science Center and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District.

Please join us, the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1-4 pm CDT on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in Iowa City, IA to discuss these issues and identify potential solutions.  We will meet at the Iowa National Guard Readiness center at 4540 Melrose Ave, Iowa City, IA.  Click here to see this location in Google Maps.
