Our topic will be Presidential Policy Directive 8 on National Preparedness including components of the National Preparedness System. This system is the instrument the Nation will employ to build, sustain, and deliver the core capabilities identified in the National Preparedness Goal across five mission areas--Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery.

Our guest will be Donald "Doc" Lumpkins, Executive Director of FEMA's PPD-8 Program Executive Office since mid-2011, responsible for coordinating implementation of the directive. Doc Lumpkins also serves as Branch Chief, National Planning Coordination and Assistance, National Preparedness Directorate. In this position he oversees the development of national planning doctrine, catastrophic preparedness planning initiatives, and tailored technical assistance programs.
