Webinar: Kids in Disasters - Facing Our Challenges

The panel presentation will highlight innovations in pediatric disaster preparedness. The EMSC Targeted Issue projects "A Novel Imaging System for Reunification of Children Separated during Disaster" and "Refining Pediatric Disaster Triage Algorithms and Education in the prehospital Setting" will be presented. Project investigators will provide a brief overview of their work and highlight significant findings and implications for participants to consider as they strive to improve the provision of emergency care for children during disaster situations.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Define a process to better integrate the unique needs of children in to local community/hospital disaster planning efforts.
  2. Implement strategies to address at least two common problems when teaching pediatric disaster triage skills to prehospital providers.
  3. Identify and implement processes to improve the reunification of children and families when disasters strike.
Target Audience:
This webcast is appropriate for those with an interest or responsibility for disaster planning and emergency care of children, including but not limited to: state disaster and EMS leaders; EMSC grant managers; parents and family members; all levels of health care providers, including physicians, nurses and prehospital professionals and educators.
