NFPA1600 Emergency Management & Business Continuity

This two-day course will teach you NFPA 1600’s essential elements in an interactive, activity based setting.  Learn how to build an organization to develop, implement and keep your program current. Conduct a risk assessment to identify potential impacts on people, property, operations, the environment, and your organization’s brand, image and reputation. Identify resource needs and learn how to assess their capabilities. Learn how to develop prevention, mitigation, emergency response, business continuity, and crisis communications plans required by NFPA 1600. Review training requirements and experience a tabletop exercise.

Program Management - Objectives

  • Learn about the application of NFPA 1600 to your organization
  • Identify the components of an executive policy statement that defines your organization’s emergency management and business continuity program.
  • Identify applicable regulatory requirements and industry practices that apply to emergency response and business continuity
  • Identify the business case for development of an emergency management and business continuity program
  • Determine the roles of the Program Coordinator and Program Committee
  • Identify potential internal candidates for the Program Committee
  • Identify potential external participants in the planning process
  • Understand the requirements for finance and administrative procedures
  • Identify a process for development of an emergency management and business continuity program

Activity

  • Review organization chart and identify Program Committee, Program Coordinator and external participants. Identify the business case for program development.

Risk Assessment

  • Learn what NFPA 1600 requires for risk assessment
  • Learn about the relationship of hazards, vulnerability, and impacts
