Symposium: The Economic Impact in Iowa

Over the past few years Iowa has been experiencing swings from one weather extreme to another (severe storms, floods and drought). These extreme fluctuations are expensive and are negatively affecting Iowa agriculture, businesses, government and people.

Please join us for a day-long symposium that will address some of the current and future challenges facing key sectors of Iowa's economy due to extreme weather, the costs of these impacts, and how these sectors are mitigating and adapting to change.

State government keynotes include:

Chuck Gipp, Director, Iowa Department of Transportation
Paul Trombino III, Director, Iowa Department of Transportation
Nick Gerhart, Insurance Commissioner, State of Iowa
Mark Schouten, Director, Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management
Bruce Rastetter, President, Board of Regents, State of Iowa

Leading faculty and researchers from Iowa State University and the University of Iowa will share their relevant work, and state policy makers will discuss the implications for future policy in Iowa.

The event is sponsored by the University of Iowa Public Policy Center, with support from the Iowa Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.

Co-sponsoring the event are: the University of Iowa Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research, IIHR Hydroscience and Engineering at the University of Iowa, the University of Iowa School of Urban and Regional Planning, the Climate Science Program at Iowa State University and the Iowa Water Center.
